Wiseriver
scheme offers a platform that approaches wireless in easiness of deploying
new equipment and systems. One of the densely located Wiseriver Access Nodes
is always available in the vicinity of the piece of equipment to be
connected. The variety of interfaces in the Access Nodes covers the most
common standard interfaces. The aggregate transmission capacity is 350
Megabit/second in an apartment/office. The maximum number of Access Nodes, as
well as that of different applications, is around one hundred. As an example,
light control of the apartment/office requires a capacity of 64 to 256
kilobit/second. This capacity requirement is less than one thousandth of the
total available capacity. Wiseriver
does not waste capacity: There are no jams or latencies caused various
applications struggling of the capacity, because each application has its own
independent transmission resource. Wiseriver
offers mainly the wire level services for various applications but it also
has microprocessor capacity. Thus, it can be the controller of various
systems: light control, heating and ventilation, alarms, etc. As it also
provides broadband data connections it is a genuinely universal and
comprehensive. Access Nodes are located densely in each space of the
premises. This entitles the denomination ubiquitous. The savings in cabling
is significant. In large houses it can be far more than 50 percent. |

Based on
surveys made by major companies the key market drivers for Smart Home
solutions are energy saving, safety and convenience. Security and energy
saving proved to be the most popular, and energy saving was considered by 55
% of the people to be the number one driver. One third of the population is
very interested in smart home solutions for their home in a survey carried
out in Sweden. Another third is somewhat interested and the rest don’t want
to see any more technology at their homes. Wiseriver provides a platform for energy saving with
maximum convenience, for accurate control of all factors of interior climate
and lays the basis for systems that assist elderly people to be able to cope
longer in their own homes. Convenience includes also that loudspeaker wires,

The access to
building services is not open. The level of equipment as well as the
technology are chosen in an early stage of planning and sets

A single
medium that embraces all communications needs in a building is inherently a
concept that saves money in all levels: in planning, in installing, in
components. Equipment, transducers, actuators are connected directly to
Access Nodes. No interfacing modules are needed. Establishing
a new application on Wiseriver requires connecting the associated equipment to the nearest
Access Node and after that everything is a sequence of software steps. It is
clear that modifications are utterly easy to accomplish when they are needed.
In context of changing the use of the premises the need of modifying various
systems may be comprehensive. In office buildings the easiness to make modifications
is of significant importance. Wiseriver
transmits signals transparently. It means that the protocol (e.g., TCP/IP) is
not touched along the transmission path. This allows that also transmission
protocols that will be invented in the future can be transmitted through
Wiseriver. |
